Once

Monday, April 27th, 2009

A week or two on American Idol, my favorite contestant Kris sung ‘Falling Slowly’ from the movie Once. I’d never heard the song, or heard of the movie. I loved his performance though, by far one of my favorite of the season. I’ve purchased two songs from Idol this season, and both belonged to Kris. Adam is a better performer and the most talented, but Kris has the ‘It’ factor for me. A nice 23 yr old newlywed with some awesome passion in his voice.

Anyways, I decided to Netflix Once and give it a viewing. I loved it. I’ll shoot the disclaimer out right now – It’s rated R for language. They use the F word like Mormons use their own non-vulgar vulgar words. Not in the songs though. It’s… nice. Made for less than $100K I think, nothing fancy at all. Anyways, here’s the summary.

Guy plays music on the streets, it’s his passion. For work he fixes vacuums with his father. One day on the street Girl approaches him and throws a dime in his guitar case. Their friendship goes from there and lasts just a week before they part ways. What happens in the middle is just fun to watch. That’s a simple summary but it’s a simple movie!! If you don’t mind ignoring a slue of vulgarity (the worst word, nonetheless), it’s worth seeing. I was totally into it.

What the weather?

My life has been pretty uneventful as of late, but what’s new? I guess since I try not to vent my political frustrations much anymore I don’t seem to have as much to write about. I haven’t done very much updating on my site at all this month actually, even my pictures are coming far and few between. I’ll remedy that soon.

I took the Part II class of Kenneth Linge’s Photographing People, and it was fantastic as expected. What I learned in the first class was added upon, and I’m starting to really analyze pictures now when I see them, as well as examine the light on people no matter where I am. This kind of constant searching and seeing is what made Kenneth see the light as he does – I’d like to make it as natural to me as it is to him.

I really want to make this year my year for photography. I really don’t have any single friends left to move out with, and I’ve decided that what ever money would go to rent can go to equipment. I’m finally venturing outside the realm of just lenses into reflectors and lights and anything else that’ll make me that much better than the uncle or cousin or friend with the nice camera. Kenneth has became a good friend (thanks Twitter!) and he’s an incredible resource to learn from. I’ve got a few weddings lined up this summer, and I really want to make sure they show what I’ve learned. I’m having a lot of fun at the same time.

My new job is great, I really like it. I work with fun people, I’m satisfied with the processes, and I’m fine tuning my web design skills. I’ve become much more proficient in CSS and have discovered new tips and tricks that’ll make what I do stand out from the thousands of sub-par developers out there.

I guess you could say I’m tired of being in the pretty good crowd, and I’m ready to take my professional skills and move into a higher level of expertise. I’ve always thought that I do pretty good at what I get myself involved in, but if I could just fine tune my focus and concentration, I’d really start to shine. I’m ready to find my elusive concentration. I’m excited to do so.

Don’t know if this is much of an exciting post, but it’s an update, right? I think since I’ve started using Twitter, I get a lot of my blogging out that way. So follow me!

Happy Easter

Wow, I haven’t written anything for awhile! How have you all gone so long without a decent update from me?! Unbelievable! I didn’t even mention that I got a new job yet, did I? Or did I? Well, I did. Did I use did too much? I wonder.

I’m working for a company in American Fork called Only Websites, and it’s a lot of fun. Same idea as Heritage, (where I used to work) but sooo much better. Smaller, better organized, better processes, better owner… just better. I’ve been there since the 20th of last month (really?) and I can’t tell you how nice it is to have good full time work again. It’s been awhile. In the beginning I was just working from home, so it didn’t seem like much had changed, but this last week a desk opened up and now I’m finally heading into an office. But, I do miss my super computer here at home. The Macbook is a solid laptop, but it’s nothing compared to this thing. And I don’t have a decent screen at work either, my eyes are kinda wasted by go home time. I’ll figure something out.

That’s really about the only major news to share, no adventures lately. Went to Charlie Chows with Miles and Beth, and Chelsea and Kris on Saturday. That was awesome, as usual. That food is just so dangin’ good. SO good!

Happy Easter everyone! Remember the message.
