Lots of Ponies

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

This morning I went with my brother Kurt and some others up to Park City for a Mustang Car Show on Main Street. It was awesome; the whole street top to bottom was lined with Mustangs from 1965 to today, from everyday drivers to beyond show-quality. I saw about a dozen legit Shelby GT350 and GT500 (KR, H etc) that were hand signed by Carroll Shelby himself. Those are rare and very expensive anymore.

Needless to say, it was a lot of fun. I’ve posted a few pictures on my photoblog so check that out. Kurt likes to go up there to get inspiration for his 1965 Fastback that’s in the garage, eventually he’ll start to rebuild it and make it as pretty as what we saw today.

Comments are Back!

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Well, looking back at my past designs and themes for my blog, I don’t think I’ve had comments for about a year now. Oops. Thanks to Miles for letting me know. So, to remedy this, I redesigned and rebuilt unculturedswine, again. Only this time when I reskinned the blog, I worked from the original template instead of my previous one, and I was able to maintain the comments. So, if you read something interesting, comment away!

And yes, as you can tell (for now, until it changes again!) there is a new design to the website. Yes, I used argyle. I like it! I gave some sneak peeks to some friends and they all commented on the background pattern. But, it’s my website and I’ll argyle if I want to! Deal with it!

August is drawing to a close, and it has been a very busy month. Sadly, today I had to pass up on a chance for yet another trip and skip out on going to San Francisco with Miles, Beth and Chelsea to go visit their brother Ryan (and his wife Tamara. Hi Tamara!). I was going to go, then not go, then go, then not go… way too indecisive. It came down to too many things going on this weekend and being responsible. Responsible won. Grrr! I hate it when I lose! I would really love my own picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, and seeing the Palmers would have been a good bonus. Okay, the Palmers would have been cool and the bridge would have been the bonus.

In political news, McCain picked his VP today and while I was pretty disappointed he didn’t go with Romney, I think he hit a pretty solid home run with Palin. She’s a true, straight line conservative that lines up pretty darn good with me. At first I was pretty confused cause I had no idea who she was, or what kind of pull an Alaska pick would have; seemed pretty dumb at first. But thankfully that impression changed.

I also got to talk to my long lost friend Joanna today on Facebook, she’s been gone on a mission for the usual 18 months. Welcome Home Joanna! It was a fun chat, she’s been missed.

Disgusting

There is much to be said by a lot of people regarding the current state of the Union; and more than ever that lot of people is taking advantage of the digital podium. I’m not going to get too carried away here though. This dollar bill was ripped a long time ago for a reason not remotely politically related, but when I stumbled across it in a book I had I thought it might make a great symbolic photo. It could represent the current weakening state of the dollar and the economy. But I’d like to go a little past that.

“Before a crowd of several hundred union members in Reno, Nevada, Obama said the American economy was a disaster and blamed “John McCain’s president, George W. Bush.” Article Link

I’ll try not to get too accusatory and just stick with my general observation of this comment. I think it’s sick, I think it’s divisive, I think it’s as unpatriotic as a citizen can get. Thankfully, I don’t think Obama is going to win, but I’m afraid of what he’ll do when he loses. I fear he’ll carry this divisive rhetoric past the election and continue to propagate his hate. He speaks of Hope, and Unity, and Change but all the while he subtly, hypocritically works in exactly the opposite. He is uniting people for sure, but not for the cause they’re expecting. What will he do with all his supporters when he doesn’t gain the Presidency; I don’t think he’ll stop. That scares me. History has a tendency to repeat itself, and a situation like this has happened before. Just a thought, nothing more.
