What am I worth?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

I’m busy. I’m real busy in August. I’ve got pictures to take and websites to build and finish, places to go and parties to have! (My birthday is on the 6th) Sadly, I don’t know if I’m doing myself full justice on all the work that I am doing. How much am I doing as a favor or just for free? No, this isn’t a ‘cry’ for people to start paying me, but I’m just realizing that I need to value my time more in terms of money. I have a tendency to do a lot of things for free. Should I change that?

Where I’m at in life right now, most of my income seems to be self-generated building websites or taking pictures. I don’t have a constant, steady bi-weekly paycheck. At times it can be quite scary. So, I guess I need to ask myself, what do I think I’m worth in the business world? I still work for Main10, and I quite enjoy it there; however, the only clients we are really working with right now are writing contracts, so there really isn’t any design work to be done. So there isn’t much Main10 work for me to do. But… the way these odd jobs just keep coming to me makes me think that staying where I am is the best plan of action. The only question is… what is my time worth?

Mahjong

iPhone 2.0 was released a few weeks back and I must say it’s a welcome upgrade. I’ve really enjoyed trying out some games and other Apps (over 900 and counting released) and I wanted to say my favorite so far has been the free version of Mahjong. It’s 3D and used all kinds of touch to manipulate the board. It’s a lot of fun. You can twist and zoom and turn the board just about any direction it can go.

However, like most games like this I usually suck and hardly win, but occassionally I’ll get lucky with a victory.

Coming to an end (the month)

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Well July is wrapping up quickly, this year and summer is just flying by. Even though we are in the thick of the heat I’m scared the chill of winter is approaching too quickly; hopefully we have a fantastic fall season.

I have 4 weddings next week, Wed-Sat. I’m going to be so tired! And as of yesterday, I’ll be spending my birthday in Indiana. I’ll be joining my friend Cameron to to see the DCI World Championships the 7-10 of August, but we fly out on my birthday (Aug 6). I’m excited though, should be a lot of fun.

Then the week following that I have another wedding, followed by a road trip to Vegas for a reception. Ugh! Busy times ahead. I’m hoping to get a run away weekend to Moab early in September though in my almost repaired Landcruiser.

So as July closes shop, August is sure looking to fly by just as quickly. Oh, and I need to get a trip to Oregon squeezed in there as well. All aboard!!
