Road Trips, Wind Storms and Big Cats

Wow! Okay, so I have written on here for too long! Bad Joel! I’ll cover a few main events.Wednesday the 17 was the Funeral for my Grandma, Retta Brashear. It was a nice little service. My dads talk hit home pretty good for me on something you always here: You can’t take it with you. The Saturday previous to the funeral my Dad, Mom and I cleaned out her apartment that she lived in. For me, I had a hard time accepting the fact that she would never make it back here, I’d never see her in her recliner that she loved to sit in, etc etc. What my dad noticed was everything was exactly as she left it; her needlepoint next to the recliner, scriptures on the bed stand, bed made etc. She had passed away, but everything she owned was still here, she took nothing with her. None of us do. The only thing we can take with us is us; our personality, our traits, our education, our habits, and, most importantly, our Covenants.

So now I sit back and look at the world, and all the noise generated pushing people to be Popular, Famous, Rich, in Politics, get get get and get more than everyone else… and what is it all for? When they die, they will have NONE of that to take with them. And if that’s all you focus on, what you do get to take with you doesn’t turn out to be very substantial. How much life is wasted chasing for things that fade away, sometimes instantly.

Last weekend Miles, Bethanie and I headed to Las Vegas to go see Lifehouse in concert. It was an outdoor venue that was a very nice setup until the sun went down, then the wind kicked in STRONG. Fuel was the band that was performing about that time and they had a hard time looking out at everyone as the wind was blowing into them. Sadly, when they finished the management of the show decided to cancel the final show of the night; Lifehouse. So, the main reason we went never came to be. We did discover on the trip though, that Miles really likes the Cheesecake Factory.

This last week has been quick. Work was good, although it seemed I had to leave a lot for errands and this’s and thats’s. On Thursday Priscilla finally caught up on Heroes, so she’s not waiting for Monday’s episode like all the rest of us! Yay!Last night was a Halloween Party for all the married people, I finally dressed up this year, wearing the same suit I did for the Murder Mystery Party. I was a Cannibal. It was a hit. After that Eric and I ran up to Adam Ard’s Wedding Reception. Congratulations Adam! And to end the night Eric and I went to the Apple Store and I bought a copy of OS X Leopard, the newest update released just yesterday. I like it! Spotlight is WAY faster, and Spaces is pretty cool. It was good money spent.Well, this is one long post, so I think I’ll wrap it up.
