I didn't know ketchup could smell so good…

I’m shrinking. Most of my family are currently in the middle of a diet in preparation for our cruise in the Caribbean – me included. We opted to go for the HCG Diet as our crash course means to dump off excess poundage. I started on the 31st of Dec, which you would think would be a terrible day to start due to New Years. However, with this diet the first two days you’re allowed to stuff you’re face. Actually, you’re advised to. Eat, eat, and eat more is the goal. From there, you have a strict 21 day regimen of 500 calories or less of very selective foods. The key to this diet is the daily injections (yep! needles!) that you give yourself in the thigh every morning.

The injection is Human Choriogonadotropin. To put it simply, it is “the hormone produced by pregnant women in the early stages of pregnancy. Research suggests a small, daily hCG injection (approx. 125 IU to 200 IU) results in a weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs per day, and often more, when accompanied by a VLCD (very low calorie diet of apprx 500 calories)”. The research has also shown that this hormone only targets the fat you want to lose (labeled abnormal fat) while leaving your structural fat in place. And don’t worry, it’s not turning me into a women. I’m not growing boobs and lactating. Those aren’t side effects – this isn’t estrogen.

If you wanna know more, go to the link above. Suffice it to say I gained 4 pounds on the binge and have subsequently lost 11.5 pounds since then, a total of 7.5 pounds since I started 8 days ago. Obviously anyone would lose weight at 500 calories/day, BUT, I’m not hungry. I’m not starving. My stomach is never angry at me. Empty yes, but not angry. Right now the hardest part is the boredom, I’ve opted to go with protein shakes and some fruit as my food and it gets boring fast, but it’s nice to wake up every morning and see 1-2 pounds missing on the scale.

Last night I was invited to go see the Jazz wallop the Hornets by 29 points. The game was great, the temptation was terrible! Just walking in to the arena I was overcome with hot dogs and hamburgers and popcorn and everything wrong. And my neighbors are eating giant ice cream cones and Papa Johns pizza. Look above me and Taco Bell is parachuting down burritos! Rodizio is in Section Q giving away free carvings of their skewered BBQ! Enough is enough! Thankfully, I left without eating anything but it was tough. I think I’ll avoid major social activities for the time being.

In other news, do I have other news? Work is going fine, I like it. I’d like to get back into a web design job, but I’m looking for more of a career now, not a job. Someplace I can comfortably work at for years and move my way around; get a nice salary and better financials. We’ll see how that hunt goes. For now, Smith’s pays the bills.

I’m getting back on the ball for PickMe! Photo. Miles came up with some great logo ideas for me and I took one and ran with it. I’m currently pitching the idea to some PHP developers and getting bids, and hopefully by Feb I’ll have it under development. Then I’ll have to save up some cash and get into a Bridal Show and hope I’ve got enough photographers lined up. I’ll need to put together a referral program for anyone that has a photographer sign up for me, wouldn’t be much but it would be something. Give me some ideas! Maybe $15 for each wedding sold by one of your photographers? It’s a thought.

I hope you all had a marvelous new years! What are your resolutions? Right now I’m focusing on 500 calories. Five-hundred big, filling calories.

If ketchup smells good, tomatoes must smell beautifully. Glad you’re feeling good about your dieting. Would like to see some pictures of the new you when all is done.

I’m trying not to drink so much soda. In fact, I’m not supposed to have more than one a week. (It’s not going so well…)

I’m so so tempted to try this diet you’re on. First, I have no time to eat as it is. My new work and school schedule doesn’t allow me any time to make food at home, so I’m more tempted to swing through Wendy’s. Not good. So I’m thinking, if I had stuff like fruit and veggies and the shakes you eat at work in my little fridge, that would be perfect.

I’m afraid of those needles though. Harsh. Not sure I could do it to myself.
