9 Minutes

Posted on by joel

I wake up early, generally by 6:15 on weekdays. To do this I use an alarm, not surprising. I do struggle waking up at first alarm though, so I purposefully set it about 20 minutes earlier so I can snooze a few times. Do you know how long I get to snooze for? Nine minutes. And that’s not just special because of my alarm clock; I’ve noticed 9 minutes is the snooze standard on just about every alarm clock. Who decided that? What’s wrong with 10? Was there some study done that said at 9 minutes it won’t wake you out of a deep slumber, but at 10 it will wrench you out of REM sleep? Can someone enlighten me on this? How long does your clock snooze for? I actually used to do the math in High School, if I had to get up at 6:45 I would set the alarm either 18 or 27 minutes early. I didn’t want to have to get up even 3 minutes before I had to. OCD anyone?
