May 21, 1999 – Fukui

Today was a day of firsts. But I can only remember two. My first split in Fukui, and my first bike wreck on my mission. It happens, but let me explain the day.

This morn we had District Mtng. Afterwards, we began our split. First, we all came back, I made curry, and everyone ate, then Elders Lister and Maki headed off to Takefu for two days. I received Elder Vasquez. He’s been out for five months. It was fun. We started out with some gaito, then knocked a building. Not many folks were out. At around four we went follow-upping. Joyfully, I found both of the places, but neither were home. By five we were home for break.

At six we had a dinner appointment with the Fairbank Family from CO. The dad is teaching at the college for a month or 2, and their family is here. 19M, 17F, 16M (as of today). It was David’s, the youngest, birthday. They took us to an “All-you-can-place on you plate as many times as you want” place. TABEHOUDAI. It was good. Lots of meat. It was fun, but the adventure happened on the way home.

It was dark, I hit a bump hard, it bent my rim to hell and back, which in turn ceased my rather fast forward momentum. In simple words – I wrecked. I hit my right leg HARD. Billy, on of the sons (19), saw it and thought I had broke my leg. I ripped a small hole in my pants, scratched up my Doc’s (POOP!), scraped my palm good, and have now bruised right by my knee quite nicely. Tonight it’s swollen HUGE. I don’t know how I’ll be in the morning. Before going home we went to the Fairbank place, and I cleaned up. Now I see the results.
